Amanjot Kaur played a key role in India’s historic first Women’s World Cup win by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai. Her brilliant work in the field helped India lift the trophy.
Early in the match, Amanjot ran out opener Tazmin Brits with a sharp direct throw, breaking her partnership with Laura Wolvaardt. Later, she took a match-changing catch to dismiss Wolvaardt. Even though she juggled the ball three times, she held on to it, which almost ended South Africa’s hopes of making a comeback.

After the final, Jemimah Rodrigues presented Amanjot with the Best Fielder medal. While doing so, Jemimah praised her for the crucial moments she created.
“We always talk about big moments — centuries or fifties. But sometimes, one moment can change everything. Amanjot, your run-out set the tone, and that catch didn’t just win us a wicket — it won us the World Cup,” Jemimah said.
Speaking about the catch, Amanjot admitted it was one of the hardest of her career.
“It was the toughest catch of my life. I usually either take a catch cleanly or drop it — I’ve never juggled like this. Today, God gave me three chances to hold it. It was a very important moment because we knew she would attack after scoring her hundred,” Amanjot said after the match.
